About
Founded in 1997, Omega Delta was a pioneer by establishing the first multicultural professionally oriented fraternity. Since our inception our professional network has been expanding from our general membership and through our associated network. Since its inception ODPN has grown to a subscriber base close to 10,000 students and young professionals.
At its core Omega Delta is dedicated to building Men of Principle and Leadership. Our brotherhood aids the individual, builds the Fraternity and strengthens the host academic institution through lifelong devotion to intellectual excellence, high standards of moral conduct and responsible citizenship. As individuals, we strive for professionalism in character as we continue our pursuit of knowledge and meaning.
The achievement of intellectual excellence is an enduring object of Omega life. Men of Principle and Leadership calls for the implementation of a comprehensive program of mentoring and incentives which will foster academic excellence.
History
Established in 1997, Omega Delta has been on the forefront of promoting professional and self development since our founding and continue to lead in that area.
The history of Omega Delta is one of change. During the fall semester of 1996 a group of close friends admired the brotherhood and camaraderie that a fraternal organization offered, so after long debates they decided to join one together. A companion of those individuals was already a member of a Greek organization from UIUC and asked the men to unite with him and become part of his fraternity. Unfortunately during the pledging process each of the men felt that there was something missing and thought that they might have made the wrong decision. This organization like most smaller fraternities was ethnically oriented and segregated from the larger Greek system. It was then that the men decided that a fraternity whose brotherhood was open to everyone was needed. An organization that welcomed positive people from all walks of alike.
Having no real Greek experience the individuals sought the help of their Greek affiliated companion. Having heard the group’s ideas he decided he too would take part in the creation of this new and cutting edge organization. After the recruitment of several key individuals, the Founding Fathers of the organization, who would embark on this mission to establish a professional and social fraternity, were in place. After a long and intensive semester of meetings, retreats and Murphy sessions the ideals of Omega Delta were born.
During the winter break, the seventeen men journeyed to Shelbyville, Illinois for a week of preparation, bonding and of change. It was during this retreat that on January 19, 1997 the men finally came together to officially for Omega Delta. The name’s literal translation from Greek means “final change”, and this was indeed the final change for the founding members of the fraternity. It was this change that would promote them to professional excellence and social responsibility. A change that promoted cultural awareness and would open doors instead of closing them.

Men of Principle and Leadership calls for the implementation of a comprehensive program of mentoring and incentives which will foster academic excellence. Men of Principle and Leadership sets specific annual chapter goals which relate to the all-men's GPA and the all-fraternity GPA. Perhaps of greater importance, commitment to the cultivation of the intellect in broader terms requires that the life style or culture of the chapter encourage and support academic achievement.
Being Men of Principle and Leadership requires members to live by the highest standards of social conduct.
Brotherhood
Universal Brotherhood as understood in the Esoteric Philosophy, and which is a sublime natural fact of universal Nature, does not signify merely sentimental unity, or a simple political or social co-operation. Its meaning is incomparably wider and profounder than this. The sense inherent in the words in their widest tenor or purport is the Spiritual Brotherhood of all Beings; particularly, the doctrine implies that all human beings are inseparably linked together, not merely by the bonds of emotional thought or feeling, but by the very fabric of the universe itself
Professionalism
Professionalism is one of the key aspects which we believe set us apart from many other organizations. We come to college not only to earn a degree, but also to become professional adults. Many who leave college with credentials, may not have become professionals or even have a clue on how to act in the working world. We believe that a major part of success deals with the way we present ourselves to the public. Upon entering the a University, we move from being adolescents to being young adults who are set on an aggressive educational and career oriented path. We should act accordingly.
Through programs, conferences, classes, leadership opportunities, networking and personal experiences, our Brothers enter the working world not only with a degree, but also with a sense of professional etiquette and ethos.
The professional life only truly begins once an individual obtains their respective degree, however Omega Delta does not end there. Through our alumni associations and professional networks our members are given access to a quickly growing networks of individuals. This provides all of our members with a support structure that will be with them for their entire lives.
Multiculturism
We live in a society that consists of many types of individuals. Compromised of many cultures our society provides ample opportunities to expand your knowledge of other cultures. We can learn from one another and eliminate many stereotypes and misunderstandings our imperfect society holds. If we stick to one kind of culture, we close our minds and do it a great injustice. We would also miss the opportunity to participate in different and new experiences that would help us grow as individuals and as an organization. We strive to build cultural awareness in Omega Delta, thus we are always looking to increase our knowledge of other cultures as well as those of our Brothers.
Diversity along with professionalism, is what we believe make us so successful and is the core of our strength. While other organizations are content with staying in their own ethnic groups and comfort zones, we pushed forward to bring multiculturism into prominent view.
Academics
Of all that Omega Delta stands and works for, academic success is of the greatest importance. We all arrive at our respective universities to fulfill one similar goal: to graduate with a degree, and enter the professional world with a solid foundation of academics, professionalism and networking. Nothing should interfere with our path to graduation. In Omega Delta, we realize that this task is not an easy one. It is a challenging and long process, but when completed, all the hours of hard work and dedication will prove valuable.
As a Brotherhood, we do not encourage you to take on this process alone. A benefit of fraternity life is the academic help Brothers offer each other. Often, Brothers study together, help when they see someone struggling or even take classes together. Our broad range of majors ensures that no one has to work alone in their respective fields. There are also study resources such as recent notes, tests and books available within the fraternity’s library. This type of environment, where academic assistance is so readily available, is difficult to find outside of the Greek community. Omega Delta prides itself on having one of the best environments within this community.
We encourage members to attend time management workshops and tutoring. Through study hours, study groups and mandatory grade releases, Omega Delta keeps a sharp eye on all its members and their progress. Excelling academically shows commitment and drive; two key virtues of any Omega Delta man. Education and information is the key to a better life and a better future for Omega Delta and its Brothers.
To accomplish this, a scholarship program has been set up to ensure all our brothers are giving their best effort. The program requires members under set grade point average, which is currently 2.75, to follow an action plan approved by the chapter. This action plan is respected by the entire chapter and maintained by the scholarship chairman.
Service
It is important for all Brothers to understand that our concept of Brotherhood goes beyond the confines of the walls of our Fraternity house and our roster of Brothers. Being an Omega Delta Brother means giving back to your campus and community. We believe that we are a privileged group and have a duty to give back to those less fortunate, so each Brother is mandated by our National Constitution to complete at least 15 hours of Community Service each semester.
We have a commitment to our neighbor whatever his color, shape, size, physical condition, or personality, for we recognize the inherent dignity and worth of each individual human being. Our concern for the community around us is strong and it shows when we lend our talents and energy to help great causes become successful.
“Our lives are to be used and thus to be lived as fully as possible, and truly it seems that we are never so alive as when we concern ourselves with other people.”
